It is widely believed that the first people that arrived in New Zealand came from Polynesia. Most Historians believe that they landed in New Zealand over 700 years ago. Although they were originally from many different country's these settlers learned to live together and eventually formed they're own distinct culture named Maori. Maori have their own language,Traditions and Culture.

3 Facts about Maui

:He has 4 brothers
Hi Malie,
ReplyDeleteMy name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you this summer for the Summer Learning Journey.
These are 3 great facts about Maui! You have done well. What sorts of magical powers does he have? It would be very cool to have magic powers. If I could chose any magic power I would choose invisibility so no one can see me sometimes. What about you?
Have you read any other Maui stories? I know a really good one about Maui and the Sun. If you would like to read that one as well, here is the link to it:

Let me know if you enjoy it!
Cheers,
Ruby.
Hi Malie, I really enjoyed reading your blog post, your second point 'he was a trickster' because it is a small but important detail of his characteristics. Maybe next time you could explain your points a little more. In all an amazing blog post!
ReplyDeleteBula vinaka Maile,
ReplyDeletemy name is Cia. I am a Summer Learning Journey blogger who will be working with you over the summer break.
Thank you for sharing those facts about Māui, great noticing I can tell you really paid attention to his character in the stories. Next time, maybe you could add a picture of Māui, I’m sure the readers would be quite curious.
I remember reading the book about how Māui slowed the sun when I was younger. Do you know any Māori myths or legends? Let me know if you do, I’d love to add them to my reading list!
You’ve made a good start to the Summer Learning Journey and I can’t wait to read more of your posts.
Toe feiloa’i fo’i ('See you again' in Samoan),

HI there Maile
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see you doing the activities. Does this unit remind you about what we were learning about last year with the voyagers that came to New Zealand. I was so excited when I saw the unit. I hope you are learning lots more about the early voyages to New Zealand.
Kind regards
Ms Petrus
Kia Ora Malie,
ReplyDeleteCadence here from the Summer Learning Journey team!
Thanks for sharing 3 great facts with us about Maui. Do you know of any other stories about Maui?
Fun facts: Maui used the water currents, waves and stars to help navigate on his long journeys. Pretty cool! I wish could do that!
Keep up the great work!
Cadence :)
