A Place To Stand. Day 2: Forest Life Activity 1: Giants Among Us!

Did you know  there is a  tree in the Northland called the Kauri tree.
Did  you also know that in New Zealand we have trees that are gum trees!

I think I would love to visit because I would like to see the Tane Mahuta in real life because what if it is soooo high and big and wide!

So I would love to meet the Tane Mahuta!

So that is all!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Morena Maile,

Welcome back! It is awesome to see that you are still working away at the Summer Learning Journey activities. You still have until midnight tonight to complete as many activities a you can. I have noticed you have posted a few comments so keep that up as well.

I agree with you, I would love to visit Tane Mahuta to see how tall and wide the tree is. I am sure it is home to many beautiful birds and animals. I could imagine that you would find some kereru's high up in the branches. What kind of birds would you expect to see up there?

Have you heard of the Kauri dieback disease? This is a horrible disease that is killing many Kauri trees around New Zealand. According to a news report I listened to, the disease has come very close to Tane Mahuta. This disease could potentially reach and kill of Tane Mahuta. That would be absolutely devastating for New Zealand. Maybe you could watch the article below and tell me how close it has come to the Tane Mahuta and what people can do to stop spreading the disease.

I am looking forward to hearing some of your ideas.

    Keep up the awesome work,
    Megan :)

  2. Hello Mailem,
It's nice to hear that you're keen to see Tane Mahuta, because I am too. I really like your big clear words that are easy to see.

I never knew we hasd trees called gum trees! You've given me a cool fact to keep in my head forever. It would certainly be cool to see how big and wide the tree would be, because pictures don't show the true size. The Kauri Dieback disease is getting close to Tane Mahuta (as Tane Mahuta is a Kauri tree) and potentially will harm it.

Maybe next time you could insert a picture or two.

    Happy Blogging
